There are more beaches in Dennis than any other town on the Cape. Dennis spans from the Cape Cod Bay to the north and Nantucket Sound to the south. It has stunning white sandy beaches on both the bay side and oceanside. There are several small ponds and lakes in town, as well as Sesuit Harbor to the north and West Dennis Harbor to the south. There is something for everyone. The area is incredibly scenic, and the sunsets are exquisite. Maps of public and private beaches in Dennis are available at the Town Hall, indicating whether there are lifeguards on duty, restrooms, showers, snack bars, etc.
The famous West Dennis Beach is less than 2 miles from Seagrass Haven. It is a mile long, sandy, ocean beach on Nantucket Sound - where the waves calmly hit the shore, the gulls soar overhead, and the smell of the salt air excites your senses. There is plenty to do for the whole family. There is a playground, snack bar, kite flying area, showers, restrooms, many lifeguard stations, and an extremely long parking lot.
South Village Beach is another fantastic beach less than 2 miles away. It is located at the mouth of the Swan Pond River with a great current that flows at low tide, which allows for a lazy river ride. It offers clear refreshing water, minimal seaweed and an abundance of shells to collect. It is also ideal for those that just love to play on the beach in soft sand. Or you can enjoy riding the waves when the tides change. Be advised that there is no snack bar or permanent bathroom/changing facilities.
However, if you prefer pristine sand and a tide that goes way out allowing walks in the wet sand during low tide, then drive to the Dennis beaches on the Cape Cod Bay. Chapin Beach, Mayflower Beach, Corporation Beach and Bayview Beach should not be missed.
The Bass River Marina is within walking distance. It has a nature boardwalk along the waterfront with access to two waterside restaurants: Summer Shanty and Sundancer’s. Grab an early dinner or cocktails and then walk home to watch the sunset. There are many wonderful restaurants, coffee shops, bakeries, ice cream shops and boutiques in the local area, accessible by car or bicycle.
